1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Stolen
In what is becoming an all too common theme, we are featuring another classic car that was stolen sometime after a car show ended. Actually this is only 1 of 9 stolen that weekend all of whom attended the same car show! It is worth noting that the cars were not actually stolen from the car show, but from places the owners were staying at afterwards.
This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS belongs to Gerald Chartier from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. He has owned the car since 2004 and did a complete restoration that took roughly 5 years. Gerald, like many other people that weekend (July 15-16 2016) was attending the O’Reilly Auto Parts Street Machine Nationals in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Sometime between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning the car was stolen from the Ramada Inn parking lot on Industrial Boulevard in Minneapolis, Gerald was staying at. I have been in touch with Gerald’s daughter and needless to say, he’s heartbroken;
…we re still holding onto hope.. cause that was my dad’s baby.
Chartier said the Chevelle was locked at the time of the theft.
“I still have all the keys,” he said. “I did leave my cell phone in the vehicle, but unfortunately if you don’t leave it on they can’t track it.”
There were surveillance cameras in the parking lot, but Chartier said when he spoke to hotel staff, he found out they weren’t operational
As of this writing 2 of the 9 cars have been found. The 4 door Chevelle and the Cutlass were found torched. There was nothing salvagable on either vehicle.
